Consumers prefer online enrollment for health care

A recent analysis shows that consumers of all ages choose to enroll in health plans online rather than through a call center.

DestinationRx saw a 12% shift from call centers to online enrollment from 2008 to 2009 and an 11% shift from 2009 to 2010, according to the educational, strategic, and transaction-support tools provider to the health care industry. This evidence suggests that consumers might be comfortable with a transition to an electronic health care system designed for efficiency and cost-effectiveness, the company said.

“As the health insurance market rapidly becomes a digital environment, seniors have been remarkably adaptive. Our experience proves that seniors and their dependents understand and prefer the internet when shopping for the right plan,” Toby Rogers, executive vice president of DestinationRx, said in a statement. “Shopping online for health insurance has emerged as a major trend across all age groups, not just for the young and healthy.”
